Lullaby For Elisheva

By ManWithHat

Written for the Rabbi's 2 year old daughter on her birthday.

The Rabbi at the Chabad on campus has two children, Meir at 3, and Elisheva, who recently turned 2. She loves it when I sing the "Before I'll be your dog" line of "Baby Please Don't Go," so I started writing a song about dogs. On her birthday I sang it to her. She liked it.

The dog's in the meadow, asleep in the sun
The pie's in the oven, waiting to be done
The birds in the trees
Sing ancient melodies
And the wind gives them harmony.

Awake soon the moon shall be
Asleep soon the sun shall be

The old man tells stories to the young girls and boys
Who have all forgotten their shiny new toys
The mother and the father
With their son and daughter
Sing with the wind and the water

Awake soon the moon shall be
Asleep soon you should be
