Chaos surrounded me in vibrant abundance, nearly deafening.
The sky was bright but the mood was darker than I had ever known.
Dusted piles of earth shattered like a wine glass on a marble floor.
I went numb.
Between broken patterns of light and sound, the ringing came forth
and blackened every inch of my soul that was alive.
It stepped out of me, slithering from my eyes and pouring from my mouth.
It watched me lay limply in the arms of my fellow soldier.
It watched me drown.
