FAR TOO MANY SMILES

There are far too many smiles

Directed towards me

I have done nothing in my life to deserve such kindness

I need to take a break and spend sometime in the gray.

It is happening again, this drumming inside me

Something beating it's way through my skull and skin

And as I sit up all night praying for a calm to close my eyes

I hear a happiness drift up from the street.

Well joy and misery are all out of balance

Love, I'm afraid does not want to appear

And in hearing stories of the past

When all people knew was laughter

It can make you want to ask

'Just why was I even born?'.

There are far too many smiles

Directed towards me

There are far too many smiles

For one sorry man to receive

I have done nothing in my life to deserve such dear kindness

I need to take a break and spend sometime in the gray.
