Monuments to Our Shame (RE: Voyager Collab)

Setting: A destroyed atmosphere forces mankind to merge with machine in order to survive. Sunlight can be synthesized for nourishment. People grow ever more introverted and connect mainly through neural networks.

Background noise: mixture of static, electronic dial-up sounds, and the ringing of an ear hair cell dying/ tinnitus

Broken mirrors spread like wild fire Jagged shards growing ever more common than whole Few could stand to bare our faceless sight A fate birthed in convenience grew into necessity As the broken sky lay waste to field and animal alike We contained ourselves behind circuitry and screen The ruined line between mutilation and survival (The sound of ringing intensifies then fades )

Facelessness submitted to humiliation And we engaged in an everlasting game of hide Seeking only to remind ourselves of ourselves Never and always alone With the maddening sound of thought echoing in our encasement (The sound of ringing intensifies then fades together with the above line.)

Infinitely connected and ever longing to connect We only gather on invisible webs Gazing upon decaying stadiums from afar No longer filled with living Empty reminders of us, monuments to the past Rubble and rust in the intensifying heat

(Longingly) Infinitely connected but we never speak Can you press your hand to mine? We eliminated distance and never made time (Softly) Can you press your hand to mine? (The sound of ringing intensifies then fades together with the above line.)

We try to forget all that was as we shed our skins Baring what is left of our humanity Fingerless rays caress flesh And modified bodies synthesize the sun The ruined line between mutilation and survival Infinitely connected and ever longing to connect We stand as monuments to our shame

(Softly) Can you press your hand to mine? (The sound of ringing intensifies then fades together with the above line.)
