What DAN said to me on V3...

By gweninterrupted

So many of you have asked... Well, here it is... i saved this text as a Facebook note because it meant so much to me. ******************************************************************* For the LOVE of Dan Gordon-Levitt ♥ (From the COURAGE RECords on HitRECord.org) June, 2009 ************************** gweninterrupted wrote: i don't like feeling like there are things i cannot do. That thought pattern has held me back in life too many times. It's time for me to try HARDER to get past my fears. Thanks for listening- and for inspiring. =) Advice for quieting the fear demon is requested. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dan wrote: you're awesome! articulating your fear is the first step toward reducing it. you already rocked that one so I'm not going to count it in my 12. my first step is commiting to your goal of making RECords of yourself with cameras as your weapons of mass creation. really consider your undertaking. then say it out loud. Release a not-camera-pointing-at-you RECord declaring your commitment to this project. The hardest part is hello and well begun is half done. The rest of the steps will be easy by comparison. Ready? Go! point your camera at yourself and don't turn it on. talk about how it feels to have a camera pointed at you. repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 3 do the same thing but turn the camera on and don't hit RECord repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 4 do the same thing but hit RECord and then delete the RECord repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 5 do the same thing but wait for a minute before deleting the RECord repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 6 do the same thing but wait for an hour before deleting the RECord repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 7 do the same thing but don't delete the RECord from your camera. download it to your computer. then delete it from your computer. then delete it from your camera. repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 8 do the same thing but wait for ten minutes before deleting the RECord from computer and camera. repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 9 do the same thing but watch the RECord before you delete it. then delete it from your computer and camera repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 10 do the same thing but don't delete the RECord. just let it live forever on computer. delete the RECord from your camera. repeat that until it's easy enough (this step is going to be awesome! what a personal collection of RECords that'll be!) when you feel like it, move on to step 11 do the same thing but Release the RECord on hitRECord.org delete the RECord from hitRECord quick like a bunny before anybody sees it. delete the RECord from your camera and computer. repeat that until it's easy enough. when you feel like it, move on to step 12 step 12: request your story keeper to bake or buy a Victory Cake for you. Normally, we give people a cake for Coming Out to the significant people of their lives. We're stretching that tradition a bit as coming out isn't really what you're doing. but it's similar and I declare that your awesome warrants a cake. decorate the cake with some congratulatory words about overcoming the camera challenge. make a RECord of him presenting you with the cake (make sure to include a closeup of the cake and its laudatory verbiage) and you eating your Victory Cake while you talk about how it feels to have a camera pointed at you. remember that's what you've been doing when the camera is pointed at you in every step since 2. Download the RECord to your computer. Release the RECord on hitRECord.org done! you win! the part that I want to emphasize is the "repeat that until it's easy enough." that may be twice and it may be 20 times a day for months for a single step. there's no rush. do not cut corners and do not cheat by going to the next step before the current step is easy enough. you've got plenty of time and you get infinite chances. I'm proud of you for undertaking the self transformation -- however long it takes is fine. wherever you are in the process is inspiring. every step along the way is cool. We're all rooting for you. You're going to inspire a lot of people with your Victory Cake RECord. I assure you that there is no rush. We eagerly await your Victory Cake RECord, we will not impatiently await your Victory Cake RECord. Thank you for playing! dan **************************************** Much love to Dan for this. May his words now inspire you the way they inspired me. -gwen
