Griffy the Cooper

By ManWithHat

From Edgar Lee Masters' "Spoon River Anthology," the premise of which involves the poetic post-mortem speeches of the inhabitants of the small Virginia town of Spoon River, circa 1910. This comes from the humble cooper, a maker of barrels and tubs. Of the many dead, Griffy seems to have the greatest wisdom of them all.
