Nocturnes

Entranced, they lay
afloat in night’s slow breath.
They sang their nocturnes
to Orion and his belt,
for they cursed so bitterly
the groveling horizon
at day’s edge.

So their limbs unbound
with the rustic liaison
consummated
like the nightingale
courting the flower:
a single sip before
he flitted away
into Dawn’s robes.
