Know Fear (Spoken)

What are you afraid of? What happened to fear?

When did we start shoving it into a box, locking it down and shoving it to the back our heads? Since when did fear win?

What's wrong with facing it? What's wrong with looking so deep into yourself that all you see are the shadows at the bottom of the lake and all you can think is what would happen if you swam all the way down there? If you held your breath for that long, what would happen?

What would happen if all you did was sit in the dark and wait? Do you hear footsteps? Maybe whispers. Maybe you hear laughter.

Are you afraid of yourself? Are you afraid of all the things that are deep in you? And even still, what's wrong with being afraid? When did acknowledging that you're scared become a nightmare all on it's own?

It shouldn't be that way. It shouldn't be a whisper. It should be a scream. SCREAM it. Admit that you're afraid. Admit that there's things that you can't handle. That you are truly terrified of. Admit that you know terror. And then face it. Conquer it. Can't conquer if you're not afraid. Everybody has a weakness, everybody has that one thing that they can't face. Everybody has that deep dark lake, deep in their bodies.

In a shallow cave that only looks shallow. It has hidden depths, like everybody else does. It's full of the words, and the images, and the stories, and the sounds that scare you out of your wits.

So you need to go down there. Screw oxygen tank, hold your breath. Just jump in the water, swim until your lungs feel like they're going to burst. But you keep holding your breath and you get all the way down there and you face it.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. And then conquer it.
