FADE IN:

INT. KITCHEN. AFTERNOON.

JACKIE, 30s, stands in front of the refrigerator, holding the door open and peering inside. MATT, 30s, enters the kitchen.

MATT

Cooling off?

JACKIE

Looking for dinner.

MATT

Ah. Speaking of dinner, don't make me any tonight. I’ve gotta go to my boss’s birthday party.

Jackie straightens up and closes the fridge door, turning to face Matt.

JACKIE

I’ll go with you.

MATT

Oh, you don’t have to –

JACKIE

But I want to.

MATT

But there’ll be boring people there.

JACKIE

There are boring people everywhere.

MATT

Well, that’s true, but you’ll be stuck in a room with boring people.

JACKIE

They can’t be any more boring than you talking about car engines and pistons and other mechanical shit I could care less about.

MATT

You’d be surprised.

JACKIE

I’m your fiancée. I love you. I want to be with you. I would like to come with you to this party tonight.

MATT

I –

JACKIE

Say no to me. I dare you.

MATT

Uh -

Jackie pulls a “Pretty Please” face. Matt sighs.

MATT

The party starts at seven.

JACKIE

What should I wear?

MATT

Well, preferably nothing, but a cocktail dress would work too.

JACKIE

Very funny. What time are we leaving?

MATT

6:55.

JACKIE

The party starts at seven?

MATT

6…30.

JACKIE

That’s more like it. I’m going to get changed now.

She walks past Matt.

JACKIE

Oh, and when you get dressed, don’t wear the red tie.

MATT

Why not?

JACKIE

You’ll clash with the dress I’m going to wear.

MATT

Oh, well we wouldn’t want that.

Jackie stops, sighs.

JACKIE

Here we go.

MATT

We should probably colour-coordinate our lipstick shades too, now that you mention it.

JACKIE

You don’t wear lipstick.

MATT

Oh. Right.

JACKIE

Wear the blue tie. It brings out your attempted humour.

Jackie walks out of frame. Matt clutches his chest.

MATT

You wound me.
