1. Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Shells, and for right now, I don't do anything. I have a job working at the food place (yay, food service!) at the local Target, but I'm on leave. I go to technical school at night, I'm studying how to be a vet assistant, but I'm on break. (Well, only until the 7th.)
And little do my parents know, I have an overwhelming fear of my career choice - I'm afraid of bodily harm from animal teeth/claws.
I really want to do theatre and am going back to school to study it despite my lack of confidence.
-> Going back to this site was no coincidence. I am now twenty-six and go publicly by the name Inigo or Misha. I work at a veterinary office, but not as a veterinary assistant like I once dreamed. I am a mere receptionist and I only work once a week. I have a child now.
I still yearn for the stage.
2. What is the origin of your artist name?
loadmysoul has been my name since I was 17, I'm 21 now. I know I haven't had a lot of time to spend with "loadmysoul", but it's become an essential part of who I am. Among my friends, I am generally the one people go to to unload their problems onto. It is also a part of a line in my favorite song, Preparation, by Toshihiko Seki. "Preparation" was the anthem of the darkest time of my life.
-> In this world, I survive by constants. "loadmysoul" has been with me for so many years - there is no looking back. Ever.
3. What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far?
I'm generally a writer, and I've been finding myself against a wall with that lately. Honestly, it's been killing me.
4. Who or what is your biggest influence?
Everything strikes me as influential.
-> This remains true.
5. What is your wildest story?
Uh, damn. I got lost in Camden once. I almost died - yay cars.
-> Surviving my racist neighbor. I had just had my son, I had raging postpartum depression. I fought tooth and nail against my fiance and my friends abandoned me. He called me and my son a racial slur and I almost lost my will to live.
My C-Section was also a pretty wild story.
6. What is the last book you read?
My veterinary science book. That thing is a freakin' weapon.
-> I haven't had much time for books that aren't children's books. I read "That's Not My Penguin" today.
7. If you could be any character in fiction, who would you be?
Waugh, I have to choose? Well, I'm going to say Naomi Kimishima from the Trauma Center series.
->Nyssa al Ghul. A strong, commanding woman. And a kick-ass assassin.
8. What couldn't you live without?
My family, boyfriend and friends. Ah, and animals. Animals are good. <3
-> My son. My fiance. My family, blood and chosen. And my four cats - Gambit, Sissel, Kamila and Noodle.
9. What is your secret talent?
For some reason, all my friends' parents love me. I don't understand why.
-> Pretending to be okay. I am a master of "fake it till you make it". I always make it.
10. Tell me about the last dream you remember having?
Uh, I stole a rare trading card (that I'm missing in my collection) from a store shaped like a boat. I showed my boyfriend and cried. It was only worth a penny, apparently.
-> I got nothing, unfortunately. I don't sleep that well!
11. What are you craving right now?
Oh geez, either ANOTHER burrito or some gyoza.
12. What was the last song you fell in love with?
Uh, Hallelujah, by BIG BANG. They're from Korea, yo.
-> Love Like You by Rebecca Sugar.
13. Can you hula hoop?
Sorta. One of my hips is wonky due to scoliosis.
-> Nope. Not a lick.
14. What do you like?
Music from various foreign countries, anime, hanging with friends, cosplaying, writing, sewing, singing, photography, learning, animals.
-> Peace, chaos, music, sleeping, voices.
15. What do you dislike?
Being told that I can't, racism, animal cruelty, any form of abuse, snow, fraud, being cold. :(
-> Injustice, crime, fear, anxiety.
16. What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
My uncle Andrew says, "Get an education, 'Chelle, and get a decent job. So if you end up with a deadbeat, you ain't dependin' on his money and you can leave his ass."
-> Don't regret a thing.
17. How and why did you start RECording?
I've always been RECording. Ever since I was little. I had a fascination with my dad's video camera as a child and always wanted to be the star of the show.
I sang solos in elementary school, was always in the chorus, and talent shows... but as I grew older, the part of me that longed for the camera
disappeared. I stopped wanting that type of attention in middle school. I guess it was adolescence kicking my confidence in the rear end.
Recently, it's started to resurface in me, only not as always wanting the spotlight - to share the spotlight with others.
-> I started again because I saw a commercial. Why did I start posting again? Because I want to show my son that putting yourself out there isn't always a bad thing. I don't want him to inherit my anxieties. Ever.
