INT. CLUB BAR - CONTINUOUS

The club is thick with fog. Everyone looks like a silhouette. There are strobe lights flashing different colors. Music BOOMS with heavy bass.

A crowd of silhouettes surround the bar, a line with no sense of order. FREDDY, a lanky guy in his early 20s, stands in the mob, close to the bar.

         FREDDY

Uuuggh, this line sucks!

He sees a girl walk up to get in line right behind him. JANE, about the same age as Freddy, a bit shorter, with a punky look about her.

He goes up to her.

FREDDY (CONT’D)

Hey! Can I get you your drink? This line is insane.

Jane studies him and smiles.

 JANE

Oh! That’s very nice of you!

(beat)

Could I get...a gin and tonic?

FREDDY

Sure!

(to the bartender)

Two gin and tonics, please.

JANE

Are you American?

FREDDY

What gave it away?

Jane giggles.

JANE

What brings you to London? Visiting, or uni?

FREDDY

Studying - uni. For the semester, over in Kensington.

JANE

Ooh, posh!

FREDDY

How about you? Are you from here? Oor...

JANE

         I’m from Australia! Uni.

FREDDY

Very nice!

JANE

I'm Jane!

FREDDY

Freddy!

They shake hands.

JANE

It's nice to meet you!

The bartender hands Freddy the two drinks, and Freddy hands one to Jane.

JANE (CONT’D)

Can I give you a hug? For the drink?

They hug, then go their separate ways.

INT. CLUB DANCE FLOOR - CONTINUOUS

A little bit later.

Freddy sways awkwardly to the rhythm amidst the crowd, drink in hand.

Jane hops up in front of him.

 JANE

Hi, Freddy!

FREDDY

Oh! Hi! Jane, right? From Australia?

JANE

Yes! You got it!

FREDDY

Okay, good. Because I can hardly see anything here.

(beat)

I can’t even tell if these are my friends, or just some random people...

JANE

I know! There’s so much smoke!

FREDDY

Right! It's crazy!

They both sway in awkward silence.

JANE

Would you like to dance? With me?

FREDDY

Sure, okay!

Jane puts her arms on Freddy's shoulders, and Freddy wraps his around her waist, and they dance for a bit.

JANE

I don’t usually do this, dance with strangers. But you seem nice!

FREDDY

Aww, thanks!

(beat)

You seem nice, too.

She giggles, pressing her forehead against his chest. She looks back up at him, pouting.

JANE

Are you okay? You’re shaking. Are you nervous?

(beat)

We can stop if you'd like?

FREDDY

No, no, it's good. I'm good. Everything is cool!

(beat)

I’m, um...I’m just an anxious mess. I don’t really dance with people much, y’know?

Jane giggles again.

JANE

Oh, I’m sorry! Don’t be anxious!

FREDDY

It's cool, I'm good!

They dance together for a little bit longer.

Freddy's head snaps up.

FREDDY (CONT’D)

Shit! I think those are my friends! I gotta run, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!

JANE

Oh, okay.

(beat)

Oh, but wait!

She grabs his head and pulls it close to hers. She kisses him.

JANE (CONT’D)

It was nice dancing with you, Freddy!

FREDDY

You too, Jane, from Australia! It’s been fun!

He runs off to catch up with friends.
