Your very last sunny day

Did this today out of the blue. Had this great track for a couple days and suddenly it all came up, words and melody. Sorry for the capital letters. I pasted them from a sticky note I made in big characters to read them as I recorded.

Not reinventing the wheel here. Sounds like a million things. Tragically hip and that era. If it sounds too much like a particular song, please put a link in comments.

AND THE FATHER SAID

LET THERE BE LIGHT

SO WE COMPREHEND

AND THE MAMA SAID

LET THERE BE LOVE

WE CAN UNDERSTAND

THEN THE KID SAID

IT WASN'T MY FAULT

I CAN SWEAR

IT'S LIKE THIS MOST OF MY DAYS YOU SEE

I WAKE UP IN A MEMORY

THAT VEILS WITH A GLOOMY CLOUD WHATEVER SUNNY DAY

AND THE NEIGHBOR SAID

I'VE SEEN IT ALL

I CAN TESTIFY

AND THE STRANGER SAID

I'VE HEARD IT TOLD

HE WILL DO SOME TIME

THEN THE JUDGE SAID

IT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT

YOU ENDED UP THERE

YOU'RE GONNA SPEND ALL YOUR DAYS NOW

AWAY FROM US BEHIND BARS

GUESS BY NOW YOU'VE SEEN YOUR VERY LAST SUNNY DAY

AS IF HE EVER SAW ONE

Update: Most of the times we don't really write songs; they write themselves and simply allow us in the process. As I was trying to change the last lines for something that wouldn't be so dark, I thought: wait! I know what this song might be trying to talk about: a crooked system that allows for prisons to be privatized and judges to be offered a cut on each new inmate they send their way. How dark is that? Songs cannot always talk about the birds and the bees, in a world where judges don't mind ruining lives to pay for their latest Mercedez Benz.

But HR is a free country, you can remix it and talk about the birds and the bees.
