Darkening Skies

Darkening Skies

Rarely invited,

and mostly feared.

Uncalled, unforeseen guest.

Cold as weather,

Born out of gloom,

Biting into human flesh.

Capricious, yet methodic.

Impulsively awaiting a moment

Planned in ancient infinity.

Hard, ethereal, life changer.

Will you play, or will you let us live another day?

You who are part of any act of divinity.

You work in circles.

You watch us grow, get old.

You come down for us, then go back to the skies.

Oblivious to human desire.

Is your place in nature,

Or is your nature beyond truth and lies?

A scythe in your hands.

Heads bow to your arrival.

Feet flee your presence.

Always a grey robe with no eyes.

Lightning quick, thunderous.

Damp, unmerciful essence.

Can you feel it?

Can you smell it?

Can you hear it?

In your heart.

In the air.

In your head.

What did you think I was talking about?
