When I was in elementary school, my family lived on a street quite close to a cul-de-sac. My sister and I would ride our bicycles in that cul-de-sac almost every day, and one morning we grew curious about one of the houses that sat on the corner. We never saw the people who lived there -- they never came out to mow the lawn or converse with other neighbors. So I decided to play a little practical joke -- I told my sister that a girl named "Paform" lived there with her sister "Victoria" (to this day I have no idea where I came up with the name Paform) Their parents were very strict, so Paform and Victoria could never come out and play.
My sister believed this story for several weeks. I would write letters to her from Paform, saying how much she wanted to meet her. I would go to the cul-de-sac early, and when my sister showed up would tell her that she just missed Paform. When we'd go to the pool or to the grocery, I would point out random strangers and tell my sister that that was Paform or Victoria, but we couldn't go up and talk to them because their parents would get angry.
Of course the charade had to come to an end sooner or later. I got caught the day I told my sister that Paform had just run to the back of the house, but when my sister followed, there was of course no one there. I ended up having to come clean that Paform wasn't real...
But she still thinks Victoria was!
