"heat" random cowboy poem babble a la koura

when the dust settles

below a broken sky

shattered whiskey glasses

i hear a distant cry

lassoed stars crumble

under a high noon sun

shining on the echos

of the sheriffs gun

how long will this facade

and this brown grit grime

fade the grass from the valley

and heat a standoff of time

cactus wine and water

seep through red cracked lips

narrowed eyes upon them

steady quiet hand grips

when the dust...settles

edge of town...tonight

when the dust...settles

end it all...right

past the boots silent echos

in the dusty square

where faded wanted posters

rustle in the air.

every movement matters

in this here sun-baked heat

one stray nod and you're

face down in the street

now the bourbon reigns

i think i'm seeing double

calm my nerves, it's alright

because i'm here for trouble

where white corsets sloughed

i see a figure a-gasp

which of us is the bad

which one first will grasp

a shot rings out, a thud

i'll be damned it's hot

guess i'm still here

bartender, another shot

when the dust...settles

edge of town...tonight

when the dust...settles

end it all...right
