INTERVIEW with With Pencil In Hand

1. Who are you and what do you do?
There are so many ways I could answer this! Whelp, I am a senior Illustration student at Ringling College of Art & Design. I minor in Visual Development and would love to work in film, TV, games etc. I also have a passion for sculpting and dream of working for a company like Hasbro sculpting toys, figurines, collectibles. I am also obsessed with the ocean and all of its wonderful creatures! I love whales O_O

2. What's the origin of your artist name?

Well my real name is Jenna Antonelli ...yeh not very fun is it? I guess it started with the need to name my blog and I thought it had a certain flow to it...and it speaks a lot about me and how I work. I have always had a pencil in my hand and its how I feel most comfortable working.

3. What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far?
Well on here its just sifting and finding those things that you can get inspired to work on. If I can see an image in my head right after reading, seeing, or hearing something then my choice is kinda made. Though I have no issue with taking requests..I am an illustrator after all ;p

As far as my struggles outside of HitRecord..I would say it is finding my own voice and being comfortable with my work. I'm at the stage now where im going to graduate and I better be prepared with the work I have ..otherwise I wont be getting hired ;/

4. Who or what is your biggest influence?

I could honestly go on forever. I truly believe that everything and everyone has a huge impact on me. I like to think that I am a product of my environment.  This is the short of it but if I wanted to I could write page after page just about how my dad influences me! <3

5. What is your wildest story?

I'm not sure if WILD ever would describe my antics...and I think it says a lot about me when only dirty things pop into my mind! Hm I seriously just sat here for 5 minutes thinking about this question...I got nothing boring hah!

6. What is the last book you read?

Do comic books count? I read Understanding Comics by Scott Mcloud. Great comic book about comic books! :)

7. If you could be any character in fiction, who would you be?

Aayla Secura cause who wouldn't want to be a sexy bad ass Twi'lek Jedi Master? Plus that means I would get to hang out with Obi wan ;D

8. What couldn’t you live without?

Easy. Friends and family...sketchbook is a close second ;p

9. What is your secret talent?

I can mimic a pretty big range of voices..and sometimes sounds!

10. Tell me about the last dream you remember having?

It was a long continuous dream involving traveling, explosives, packing suitcases ( yes is was a big deal) black smoke monsters, India, mermaids, ...and at one point I became aware of the dream. I thought, while in it, how interesting it was that I was dreaming like an filmed and edited movie..using different shots and cuts..instead of through first person.

11. What are you craving right now?

Always chocolate...and pineapple fried rice and a spider roll :d

12. What was the last song you fell in love with?

Still obsessed with 'Little Lion Man' by Mumford and Sons

13. Can you hula hoop?

14. What do you like?

So vague! I could list so many things!

Beyond the obvious and mundane..A nice night out to dinner with my significant other or friends. Good food, a few drinks, and plenty of conversation...yeh I like that.

15. What do you dislike?

16. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

"Is there anything you can do about it now? No?..Then stop stressing about it!"  Heh I'm a worry wart.

17. How and why did you start RECording?

As far as HitRecord goes...I was watching 500 Days of Summer...I had just gotten my new R2D2 Droid phone and was on a twitter kick...finding as many interesting people with twitters as possible. So I Googled Joseph Gordon-Levitt and well that lead me here! I was so incredibly inspired by this community and his immense passion for all that is done here ...that I  couldn't resist!

As far as Recording throughout my long as I can remember I have been drawing. The one day in sixth grade I realized that this was what I wanted to do...I never felt more excited about my future...and Ive been going full force ever since!
