cigarette smoke

An old man grey sitting at a booth

He points at the menu and smiles

A toothy smile, all the while

He’s living like he’s sleeping

The diner fades, his meal awaits,

But what does it mean to him?

Rotten eggs

His coffee’s cold

And everything tastes like cigarette smoke

Slouching like a streetlight, he’s far off and gone

When he was young he had a dream of conquering the world

The waitress waits, she usually hates

When old men smile and leer at her

But this man’s dear and near to her,

There’s something familiar to her

The diner fades, his meal awaits

But what does it mean to him?

Rotten eggs

His coffee’s cold

And everything tastes like cigarette smoke

She slouches like a streetlight, now she’s far off and gone

when she was young she had a dream of conquering the world

Slouching like a streetlight, he’s far off and gone

when he was young he had a dream of conquering the world
