i sit on the edge of the pool
and dip my feet in the water.
i've had my fill of laps,
just a few to take the stress away.
i hear the innocent laughter
in the voices of the little kids
splashing around with mommy and daddy.
in my being happily jealous
over their sweet playful banter,
i find my feet dancing in the water,
making ripples in the process,
ripples that i wish, now, more than ever,
i were making with you,
our feet, supposedly bumping into each other
in the seeming innocence of the moment,
even when we know,
we're both doing it on purpose.
