1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Eric and i am an editor and filmmaker.. i sometimes take photos.. i used to be a painter, both portrait and abstract ( hope to get back into that).. but most of all i am an artist.
2. What is the origin of your artist name?
When i was in film school i met a group of guys and we started a production company.. We called ourselves THE FILMPUNKS … i just loved that name so much that i made it singular and adopted it as my own.
3. What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far?
well, for me it was always been feeling like im putting enough into my art. In artschool i discovered abstract expressionism.. and i was able to finish paintings in a few minutes.. i felt like i was cheating a bit.. cause here i was knocking out 3 or 4 paintings in a sitting and getting great reviews and grades on them and i saw all these others working on one piece for months…
I believe that simple is usually better.. its always lead me in life and in art.. but with that comes the feeling you aren't doing enough.
4. Who or what is your biggest influence?
In art it was Lucian Freud for my portrait paintings.. for my abstract work it was Jackson Pollock (early Pollock… not drip painting Pollock)
in film.. well thats a little tougher but style wise.. id say John Ford, Kubrick, Guy Ritchie… but i love all films and many directors… so they all kind of inspire me in one way or another
5. What is your wildest story?
i have plenty… but most of them are not for polite company… but im more than willing to tell them to you over some drinks… but i can tell one….. ok So back in 03.. maybe 04 in LA i was hanging with some friends at the Saddle Ranch at Universal City Walk, which for those who don't know, is right next to the entrance to Universal Studios theme park… so as the night goes on we notice that there are a ton of middle schoolers running around near the entrance to the theme park.. apparently some school was taking over the theme park at night for a field trip… Well, kinda drunk, my friends and I decide that we should try to sneak into the park with these students posing as chaperones.. so we pay our tab and start to walk over to the mob of students to scope things out.. well somehow we managed to fool everyone and we walked right in with these kids and other chaperones.. so we did what anyone else would of done… rode all the rides…. one of the cooler random nights i had in LA
6. What is the last book you read?
Im not much of a reader.. i am Dyslexic and have reading comprehension problems… meaning i tend to need to read a sentence over again before it sticks… makes for reading books for fun a little difficult. but i am trying to finish World War Z and The Wander the story of Dion DiMucci (DION and the Bellmonts) cause i want to turn it into a screenplay.
7. If you could be any character in fiction, who would you be?
hmmmm never thought of it before…. maybe Deckard from Blade Runner……. or Fievel from An American Tail
8. What couldn't you live without?
Music.. my computer…. food :)
9. What is your secret talent?
i have a photographic memory when it comes to faces…. im shit with names but if i saw you once… i will remember you next time i see you no matter how long its been…. in LA this was extremely helpful in picking actors from tv and movies out in the world… id be like "HEY its that guy from that car commercial" and my friends would just look at me like how do you know this… got to the point i got dubbed the nick name eagle eye.. lol
10. Tell me about the last dream you remember having?
I remember my dreams every night…. but last nights was all kinda jumbled .. there was some sort of awards show.. where all these actresses were singing and dancing in some number.. Sandra Bullock was in a bikini .. then i was getting dressed but couldn't find the right clothes to wear.. and there was a biker gang somewhere… i don't know.. sometimes when i remember them they are just random images…. but two nights ago i remember more…. i was manning a a grill and was grilling some peppers.. i turn around and find that they are gone… well Michael Scott from the office was there and i KNEW he took them.. and he just had that look on his face when he is embarrassed …. stupid Michael Scott lol
11. What are you craving right now?
food.. haven't eaten today yet
12. What was the last song you fell in love with?
um not sure i have ever fallen in love with a song.. but i have been obsessed with songs… most recently Starlight (feat. Myles Kennedy) by Slash
13. Can you hula hoop?
when i was a kid.. not sure if i still can.. haven't tried
14. What do you like?
Movies, Well Written TV shows, the sound of babies laughing, 50's early 60's music, a good meal, a good drink, warm weather (not hot), being poolside, and making art
15. What do you dislike?
people who think they are entitled to things.. no one owes you anything .. you need to work to get the things you want… people who claim to be open-minded but reject your point of view outright .. waking up early in the morning, snakes, … stupid people…. just about everything on the E channel .. i dk.. other stuff im sure
16. What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
um… the harder i think of this one .. the less i can think of.. i've gotten tons of great advice over the years… just cant think of any on the spot like this… ill come back to it later
17. How and why did you start RECording?
My good friend jill told me about this site right before i was heading to see her at sundance … i took one look at the site and the new deal and fell in love… i immediately saw the potential in a company like this.. and in the first time in a very long time felt like being creative again…. my life was pretty rough leading up to finding hitrecord and it was the spark i needed to pull myself out of the rut i was in… im not lying when i say hitrecord kind of saved me from myself.. and for that i am forever grateful and will be a hitRECorder for life
