I have noticed ever since the whole Miss Murder incident alot of hostility towards "people who dont get it"... people who either put up copy written material or "fangirls" who put up JGL related things.... and frankly it kind of doesnt sit well with me, how we are treating these newcomers.
now granted some of these people dont get what this is about... but its not our job to treat them like shit and make fun of them.
something todd said in the fireside chat that really struck a chord with me and it was that some of our actions as of late may be scaring off potential new talent... and im not necessarily talking about the one people are commenting on.. but the other new ones.. the ones that havent made anything yet but are reading these hurtful comments and saying "fuck this place"
And who would blame them... i wouldnt want to be part of a place like this if all i saw were these negative comments.
And the worse part of this is, is that some of the people who are overly criticizing and, what is in my opinion, bullying this people, are some of the same people who are outraged with the recent news of these gay teenagers who killed themselves because of the teasing and bullying they received. Now im not comparing the two... but have some consistency in your lives.
So im not saying we shouldnt call out those who use copy written material... no we need to police ourselves and stay on top of that... but maybe we can learn to do it with a little less hate and anger in our tone..
And if you dont like something someone posted and think it sucks.. fine... but why do you think you need to tell them you think it sucks... would you want to hear that your work sucked.. i wouldnt...
we need to be encouraging new comers to create new works of art... help them with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.. help them get involved with collaborations.. because thats how we grow as a community... as artist... and as people...
thanks for reading <3
