I was born from Central American parents and I speak Spanish. Being first generation, I tend to make mistakes. It's funny how shameful it can feel when someone calls me out for speaking Spanish incorrectly. The shame can get so bad, I have friends and family members that avoid it altogether and say they don't speak Spanish at all. A feeling of being less than others. I'm no less Central American just because my Spanish isn't perfect. So I'll continue to speak my Spanish and make mistakes because I am proud of who I am and where I come from.
