Take it Slow

A young man always went through the same routine. Wake up, eat breakfast, ride the 8:00am train to work, work, and go home. He did this every day, of every month, of every year. The young mans father had drilled him on being a successful man in life, and so he tried. One morning his 8:00am train didn’t show up. The train station was empty. There was no one in sight, and not a sound in the air. This was creepy. Suddenly the young man heard something. A train was heading his way.

“At last!” he said. “I can’t miss a day of work.”

But there was something different. The train was a bright blue, and on the side was written 8:00am.1. What the fuck? The doors opened and loud music was released into the air. The young man was hesitant, but stepped into the train anyways because why not this is a folk tale. Inside there appeared to be people of all different ages, from all different parts of the world, and perhaps even different time periods in life. They were all dancing. They were all happy. The doors quickly shut behind him and the train took off. A beautiful woman approached the young man.

“Hello.” She said.

“What is this? What’s going on? I just want to go to work. I NEED to get to work.” The young man worriedly responded.

The woman looked at him and smiled.

“That’s your problem. You’re so preoccupied on working and making money that you have forgotten to stop and breath. Look at the world and enjoy what it has to offer. Much like this train or the birds of the sky, time flies by if you don’t stop and enjoy it. You could miss it.”

The woman then pointed towards the train’s window, where everything that the young man had been too blind to see was happening. The time he missed his younger brothers birthday, the ex-girlfriend who left him for being too much of a loner. Everything that could have made him a better, and happier man. A single tear dropped from the young mans left eye.

“Thank you. Thank you for opening my eyes.”

“Well they’re not entirely open yet.” Responded the woman.

“What do you mean?”

“You’re dreaming.”

Suddenly the young man woke up. He was sitting on a bench at the train station. It was 9:00am, which meant he was late for work. But he didn’t care. Today he was going to take it slow.
