I'm not afraid of the dark; I'm afraid of all of the things that I can no longer see, or may never see again. I am a very visual person and I don't like the idea of my eyesight being taken away from me, even if only temporarily. Macular degeneration and other eye problems run in my family, and it's those moments where it's pitch black and I can't see two inches in front of my face where I think of the darkness being permanent. The lights come on and it's pure relief.
