*A slightly different take on the story - I originally submitted this to the Swimming Collab, but thought it might work for the Ghosts collab*
A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMAN IS SEEN SLOWLY FLOATING DOWN THROUGH THE DEPTHS OF THE LAKE.
VO: They say this lake is haunted by a beautiful young woman, Emily, who drowned here hundreds of years ago.
They say her fiancé was killed by highwayman who threw his body in the lake. She was so distraught that she mourned by the lake’s edge night and day crying for her lost love.
HIGHWAYMEN DUMPING BODY IN LAKE THEN YOUNG WOMAN CRYING AT WATER'S EDGE
Until the day she could take the pain no more and walked into the lake until she could walk no more and sunk into its inky depths to be with her love once more.
YOUNG WOMAN WALKING INTO LAKE
Emily was welcomed by the spirit of the lake, who could not stand to see her pain. He took her down with him to the deepest depths and there built her a city and filled it with wondrous creatures, the likes of which had never been seen before and she learned to smile once more.
SPIRIT OF THE LAKE CARRYING EMILY TO DEEP WITHIN THE LAKE AND BUILDING A WONDERFUL UNDERWATER CITY
They say she takes those who drown in the lake down with her to this city filled with wondrous creatures, watches over them and keeps them safe for all eternity.
I hope this legend’s true.

SHOT FADES IN ON A WOMAN SITTING ON A BENCH GAZING OUT ACROSS THE LAKE WHILE CLUTCHING A TOY RABBIT CLOSELY TO HER CHEST:
Mary-Jane and her friend Jake loved to hear the legend of the lake, they would draw such brilliantly coloured pictures of the Hidden City and the most amazing creatures you could ever imagine
JAKE & MARY-JANE DRAWING CREATURES FROM THE COLLABORATION AND GLIMPSES OF THE UNDER WATER CITY
Then (voice catches), one day, how it happened, we’ll never know, but as we watched them out on the jetty, suddenly part of it collapsed, Mary-Jane struggled to hold onto Jake, but she was not strong enough for a moment it looked like she would fall as well
JAKE & MARY-JANE LYING ON THE JETTY THE JETTY COLLAPSING AND MARY-JANE DESPERATELY HOLDING ONTO JAKE’S HAND
Jake said something to Mary-Jane (voice catches again) we only found out later what it was, but she let go of his hand and cried out for help
MARY-JANE NODDING AS JAKE SAYS SOMETHING THEN LETTLING GO
We ran down the jetty as fast as we could, a couple of the guys jumped in to try and rescue Jake, someone called emergency services, Jake’s mother was calling out to him desperately
MARY-JANE’S MOTHER HOLDING HER AS THE MEN JUMP IN AFTER JAKE AND JAKE’S MOTHER CALLING OUT TO HIM
They searched for ages, hours, but they never could find poor little Jake. (pause)
DAY FADES TO NIGHT AND FINALLY THE SEARCH PARTY IS CALLED OFF
Mary-Jane screamed, she didn’t want to leave (sob) we only found out later how brave Jake truly was, how he tried to save Mary-Jane
MARY-JANE STRETCHING OUT TOWARDS THE DARK LAKE CRYING
Mary-Jane cried out, “Jake is still out there, he wants to come home, he told me to let go so he could come home. You HAVE to bring him home!”

Mary-Jane was inconsolable, the search party went out every day for the next two weeks, trawling the lake, but they couldn’t find poor Jake. Eventually the search was called off, and a memorial service was held
THE MEMORIAL SERVICE
Then one day Mary-Jane started scribbling furiously in her sketch pad and drawing sketches of what seemed to be a metal whale
MARY-JANE WITH HER SKETCH PAD
Once she had finished her sketches she started to build this metal whale in the shed, we would hear her banging away as she hammered all the bits of scrap metal she could find together
MARY-JANE BUILDING THE WHALE
(Voice catches) She said she was building it for Jake, so we thought (pause) we thought, she meant to place it by his tombstone, so we didn’t stop her

If only we’d know what she really meant, maybe……
FADE OUT TO LONG SHOT OF LAKE AS NIGHT FALLS
Mary-Jane pushed the metal whale she made into the lake – she must have gone to search for Jake
MARY-JANE PUSHING WHALE TO LAKE THEN PLUNGING IN. AT FIRST, THE WATER IS DARK AND MURKY BUT DETERMINED, SHE CONTINUES.
As she was searching she saw a small light, then more joined, like lanterns to guide her
MARY-JANE SEES A SMALL GLOWING FISH, THEN MORE APPEAR, SHE FOLLOWS THEM.
As she follows them, the whale starts to slowly fall apart
THE WHALE FALLING APART
She saw some figures swim past

Then she saw Jake, he smiled and waved
JAKE OUTSIDE THE WHALE WAVING
She was so excited, she pushed at the last parts of the whale which fell away and she swam to Jake.
THE WHALE FALLING APART AND MARY-JANE SWIMMING TO JAKE
Jake took her hand and led her to the city where the ghost of Emily welcomed Mary-Jane to her underwater city

That’s how I like to think of Mary-Jane and Jake now, safe together with Emily in her underwater city filled with wonderful creatures
