It's Time To Ramble On (poem a day - 19)

Cover Image

The layers that you wear
are dyed in reds and blacks
I'd rather you would share
the lines across your back

while everything you say,
as you admit, might sting
we'd hardly waste a day
from summer until spring

and if your self defense
had truly caused us pain
it's only common sense
to cut against the grain

you have to get too close
and revel in the dirt
and dance among the ghosts
and get blood on your shirt

Now you can overthink
be reverent or be prayerful
but when you're on the brink,
there's no such thing as careful
