Fools and Clowns Sonnet

Cover Image

When fools and clowns are wisdom's only source,
Their skin-deep beauty viewed as expertise,
And from their stage spout thoughts with such great force
As though they'd been appointed Truth's police;
When freedom's masses clamber to their call,
And adulation hounds discernment off,
A democratic undertone withal,
Though less there is to praise than is to scoff,
Then mob mentality will soon replace
Debate and studied discourse on the facts.
A chaos will evolve and thus displace
All order - thoughts to be replaced by acts.
     A star may be the brightest in the sky.
     Does outward brilliance make a brilliant guy?
