i am the skeleton - Poem Every Day (Day 8: Blood)

i am a skeleton in your closet.

pushed behind hidden doors
hung by my feet
and drained
from tip toe to top.
sloughed sloppily and carelessly,
bursting at seams cut too deep
because
like a peach
hastily skinned
you punctured flesh
with too dull a knife
and cleaved instead of pared.
here I am,
crammed into leather suitcases
(yes, more than one)
with snapped fingers and cracked ribs,
my fibula fractured across your femoral shaft
and my skull crushed
because you sat on the case and desperately wanted to
- somehow (jesus) -
just
get
this
god
damn
thing
closed.
