I would love to create something that explored the experiences of queer individuals. I consider queer to be an umbrella term for all sexualities and gender identities outside of the status quo. Being a lesbian, gay, trans, gender queer, pansexual, non-binary, bisexual, or demisexual person... or whatever term fits one's identity, has a distnict experience. When living in a heteronormative society, being a supposedly "deviant" sexual orientation or gender identity is often oppressive and continuosly challenging. I'd love for queer identifying people within this community to share personal experiences on questioning, coming out, family difficulty, dealing with bigotry, positive support structures, intersectionality with other oppressive dimensions, or any other experience associated with queerness. From there, all artists could help to weave a narrative from the individual stories and create visuals. I have a soft spot for animation, so that's my primary goal. Perhaps an animated short portraying an array of queer experiences. I'm not sure if I'm doing this collaboration thing properly...this may have already been done. I'm quite new here, sorry.
As a wee bit of backstory, I identify as queer. I only came out about 6 months ago at the age of 23 and often think about why it took me so long to recognize and accept my romantic and sexual attraction to women. In retrospect, I see an abundance of signs to my queerness. I have theories on why I couldn't admit my attraction... I feel quite odd posting this, but I imagine no one will read it anyway. Thanks!
