     She had the illusion of soaring. But like a seagull caught on strong winds, she never really moved.

     The gull arches with purpose, curves his wings in a perfect description of grace, and if you see him against a clear blue sky, you would call him free. But zoom out, see him in the context of the sand or, more likely, the parking lot over which he's suspended, and it's clear that he is trapped. The wind pushes him sideways, and occasionally a few inches back, but never forward. All his straining just barely keeps him in place.

     In this way, she was a true inspiration, so long as progress was never expected.
