Speak Up

Cover Image

I created this image a while ago, as a variation on the red/pink Human Rights Campaign equality sign. By applying the red paint as a hand print, I hoped to emphasize the humanity in the fight for civil rights. By putting it over my mouth, I replicated the silence that dominates much of the LGBT community. By transforming my lips into the equality sign, I indicated the importance of speech in achieving social change. As Einstein said: “If I were to remain silent, I'd be guilty of complicity.”
