The darkness visited again. I found comfort in the absence of light, but the silence, the silence ripped through the room and I felt the familiar sting of regret. I retreated into my blankets, hoping my thoughts would leave me alone. But, those long forgotten thoughts screamed and yelled, clawed at the insides, and made my body shake. The coldness surrounded my skin and my flesh began to constrict. I prayed for daylight, but the silence remained. I held the blankets over my head and counted, I always found comfort in numbers. As I slowly drifted off, I heard a tiny voice, shaking, say "Mommy, she's back. She won't leave me alone." Poor child. I will never leave. This house, will always be mine.
