papermade dreams

By lindsayrae

you
make paper flowers
from the pages of old
schoolbooks and spread
them across your room as
if they are freshly picked
from a grand garden full of
pink posies that melt in the
sunlight.

i
make paper kites from
pages of worn, old journals
and carelessly fly them
in the crystalline rain that
mixes with my tears as
i watch them fall to the
dirty ground like broken
airplanes.

we
are children pressing all
our hopes and dreams into
paper kites and flowers that
quickly wither and fall to
the ground only to be soon
forgotten by the ones who
loved them most.

{and the orphic trees cry for our loss.}
