I just wanted to let you know that
I am sitting at this very same bus stop
for the umpteenth time this month.
Even through the sunshine, rain, sleet, hail,
tornadoes and torrential tropical storms
(because that’s what this has felt like).
I will be patiently waiting here
for you to slowly squeak up to this spot
and open that rusted door with that same smile.
While I sit in the seat diagonally from yours,
you masterfully maneuver this metro
through the arteries of my heart.
I ride our rectangular love boat
with sanguine, spark-igniting silence
until we reach the end of the line.
And while we share our quiet farewells,
my cogitation creates butterflies and rumbles
in my stomach about our separation.
I don’t believe they will ever rest until the end of the line is my doorstep.
