One day I was pondering the difference between personality and persona, and since the word personality includes the word persona, I decided that a personality must include a persona, but must be more than just that. I decided to mathematicize (or whatever) this thought. The result is shown below. I wrote this little mental stroll that I took down into a notebook so that I wouldn’t forget it.
Persona + lity = who you are
-(Persona) = -(who people think you are)
lity = the truth
I realized from this little exploration that honesty is not just telling the truth about external instances and not lying about other things. Honesty is about not pretending, about making “persona = personality,” so that people know just who you are. This is the most important truth of all, and I do my best to always tell it.
