According to a dictionary:
/səˈlɛbrɪti/ Show Spelled[suh-leb-ri-tee] Show IPA
–noun,plural-ties for 1.
1. a famous or well-known person.
2. fame; renown.
1350–1400; ME < L celebritās multitude, fame, festal celebration, equiv. to celebr- (s. of celeber) often repeated, famous + -itās -ity
2. distinction, note, eminence, stardom.
The word celebrity itself comes from the Latin word ‘celebritatem' meaning, literally, ‘condition of being famous.' Which means that people just have to recognize you for you to be a celebrity.
To me a celebrity is someone who has changed your life so significantly it causes you to want to celebrate their accomplishments. My parents for one, with out them I wouldn't be here. My dentist, for my white straight smile, My teachers for their education, the post man for all the cards he delivers to me, my friends for being my second family, you for being creative.
We as a society have stopped recognizing our neighbors achievements, and waste our time in this fantasy the tabloids create. Many people hold actors, singers, models and others entertainers in high regards like they were gods, but at the end of the day they are just humans who get paid to make us laugh, cry, forget our problems. Isn't that what friends do as well?
Instead of reading a magazine of gossip take your time to recognize those who are close to you and celebrate the time you have with them. Maybe then we will all be in the same plane.
